Directed by Dr. Anne Matlack, the 100+ volunteer choir and 25-voice Chamber Singers are chosen through a selective audition process. We perform a broad choral repertoire with special emphasis on contemporary works. Our choir is multi-generational and includes high school and college age singers, teachers, IT professionals, artists, lawyers, and nurses, to name a few. Many singers lead their own choirs in schools or at places of worship. Members are a part of a community of people who are passionate about singing and sing songs from many world cultures, languages, composers, and musicians, enhancing the singing experience and skills all the while.
Harmonium Membership Community
Harmonium Chambers Singers 2023
-
The annual membership fee is based on the subjective value of your investment, is comparable to similar choral groups, and is considered to be fairly assessed. Harmonium never wants an otherwise qualified and enthusiastic singer to be excluded because of financial considerations. Scholarships and payment plans are available so that everyone who qualifies and wants to participate can do so. We realize that sharing financial information can be sensitive; please contact non-singer board member Mary Leland at mdpl@alum.mit.edu for a confidential discussion about your situation.
In accordance with IRS rules, dues are not tax-deductible. Your dues are a “participation fee” that helps defray the cost of rehearsal and concert rental space, accompanist fees, and salaries. Dues and music fee payments will all be done online through our website this season.
Membership Fee is $175 for the season due in September or the next concert you sing.
Music Fee is about $35 per concert for printed copies or $25 for digital versions.
Black Folder Fee is $23. (Singers keep their own music and folder.)
-
Harmonium’s Chamber Singers are chosen through an audition process and selected for their excellent musical skill and talent. They perform a separate concert each year.

Contact: director@harmonium.org to inquire about mid-season openings.
Singers should be experienced choral singers and sight-readers. Admission is highly selective. All singers must show proof of vaccination and sing while masked.
The conductor will vocalize you and test your range, ear, musicianship, and sight-reading. A prepared solo is requested to show off your strengths in something you know—it need not be long or complex—art song, hymn, folk song, music theater, or choral excerpt.

A New Singer’s Story…
This year I gave myself the best “me” gift ever: joining the Harmonium Choral Society! I’m finally in the position to refocus on the personal activities that give me the most joy. Lucky me: I found Harmonium. It’s easy to see why Harmonium singers are so enthusiastic, are members for decades, and return in high numbers.
In addition to getting to sing an exhaustively eclectic body of work found and directed by the exceptional Anne Matlack, Harmonium is a welcoming, inclusive community of one hundred bright, friendly, highly professional, and TALENTED artists of all ages. The collective sound of this group is practically ethereal. And although I wasn’t necessarily looking for a new community, I found an extraordinary one!
A baritone recently shared, “Harmonium has an uncanny way of infusing itself into your life…in a good way!” I can’t agree more. Gratefully.
